Transforming small-scale laboratory research into a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) for Water Treatment
I'm excited to share a significant achievement made in collaboration with Sydney Water’s Research and Innovation team. Working together, we've transformed a research curiosity into a groundbreaking technology poised to revolutionize Natural Organic Matter (NOM) removal from filtered water at low pressure, advancing towards a more sustainable future.
Our journey commenced with the development and patenting of graphene oxide membranes, marking a transformative leap in water treatment. Transitioning from concept to pilot, we've achieved an impressive Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of approximately 8, establishing a scalable manufacturing process for flawlessly coating porous polymeric substrates with graphene oxide.
The image narrates the evolution of our research: depicting the journey from lab-scale testing, coating 5 PVDF tubular membranes, to coating commercially available PVDF cartridges with around 1,500 tubular membranes. We've rigorously tested the coating's integrity, achieving over 99% rejection of model molecules at low pressures (~1 bar).
